Mother's Day Gift Ideas

It’s Mother’s day very soon, this Sunday in fact if you’re in the UK. Mom’s are amazing, aren’t they? They do SO much for us, they support us our whole lives and love us unconditionally. They’re just generally wonderful. With that in mind I thought I’d put together a few gift ideas on how to spoil the BEST Moms out there. I hope this gives you some inspiration!

Mary Berry’s Baking Bible, Amazon, £16.75 Do you have the type of Mom who loves baking cakes? I know I do! Mary Berry’s baking bible has some great cake ideas, the kind of ‘no nonsense’ cakes that you can source ingredients for easily and that taste great because they’re so tried and tested. Have you seen the Great British Bake Off? Mary Berry sure knows what she’s talking about. This is actually what I’ve bought my Mom for Mother’s day!

Teapot, Occa Home, £50 How adorable is this teapot? Most Mom’s love a good cup of tea, and this is such a beautiful way of serving it. You could have some afternoon tea with your Mom using it. If you think it’s too pretty to use, it’s also lovely as a table decoration. You can find so many different styles and teapots out there, there’s one for every taste.

Flowers, Bunches, £19.99  The old classic. Flowers are a beautiful gift; they make any room look brighter and more spring-like (even if it is freezing). Bunches allows you to order the flowers online and they’ll be delivered to your Mom’s door, so these would also be great if you live away from home. If you know your Mom’s favourite flowers, bonus points!

Original Artwork by Aimee Skillen-Thompson, Artgallery, £45 Is your Mom the arty type? If she is, she’ll love some quirky original artwork. This website displays a lot of up-and-coming artists work at affordable prices. It’s such a lovely unique gift and great if she’s decorating the house.

Thierry Mugler Alien, The Perfume Shop, £31.50 I got a sample of this perfume the other day and it’s SO lovely. I want it for myself! However it was the type of scent that a woman of any age could wear. Perfume is a lovely treat.

Ted baker Purse, Ted Baker, £99 I love this! The flowers are so pretty, it’s perfect for spring, albeit a bit of a splurge! You can’t go wrong with giving a purse as a gift because it’s sooo practical.

Harrods Harriet Bear, Harrods, £17.95 Awwwh! This isn’t any old bear, it’s a Harrods bear. It’s such a cute sentimental gift and would look adorable sitting on a bed.

Onesie, Simply Be, £35 I used to think onesies were a bit silly (I’m thinking of you, animal-onesie-wearers), until I saw some really subtle cute ones. This is a great alternative to a dressing gown and it’s great to keep warm because even though it’s ‘spring’ it does get cold here in the UK.

I hope this helps if you’re stuck for ideas! What are you treating your Mom to this Mother’s day?

Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayons | Review & Swatches

Hello lovely people, how's your Monday? Good I hope. Today I thought I'd do a review of some lovely lip crayons I bought last week, which are the Bourjois Colour Boost lip crayons. Now I know I'm a tad late (okay, very late) on the bandwagon with these since they were launched last summer, but I adore them! I just can't get enough of lip crayons, I like them so much better than lipsticks because in my opinion they can be more wearable because you don't have to be so precise when applying them. I think it's a safer option for someone like me who isn't that confident wearing bright colours on my lips.

These lip crayons are in no way matte, so if you like a slightly glossy finish they will be perfect for you. They just glide on your lips so smoothly and make your lips feel moisturised as opposed to dry. Despite being glossy, they aren't sticky which is one of the best things about them.

On the tube they claim to have 'comfort and hydration' for 10 hours! While I don't believe the colour lasts that long, I definitely believe that they keep your lips soft and moisturised for that long, mine felt lovely for hours after the first application. A nice little extra bonus is that they have SPF 15+ which is great to protect your lips when it's sunny.

I picked up Orange Punch which is a lovely coral colour. I've been trying to find a perfect coral lip colour for me and I think I've found it because this is not too bright, it's subtle. Red Island is a very deep red. These lip crayons don't have any shimmer in at all which is quite rare for a glossy formula and definitely one of the best things about them! As for the smell, they just have a lovely barely-noticeable clean scent.

(L-R) Red Island & Orange Punch

How adorable are the names of these little gems? The rest of the collection are called Peach on the Beach, Plum Russian and Fuschia Libre. You can buy them for £7.99.

I have to say, for a spur of the moment Boots purchase I am SO pleased with these! Next I want to try Peach on the Beach. Have you tried these? Did you like them?

GHD IV Jade Styler Review

A few days ago I was lucky enough to receive the ghd Jade styler from my boyfriend as a gift so I thought I’d do a review of them.
The classic ghd styler has had a makeover! As you may know ghd have launched a lovely pastel collection in time for spring with the colours of Jade, Periwinkle and Lavender. The hardest part was trying to decide which colour to go for! Lavender is a lovely lilac colour and Jade is a beautiful mint green colour. As it happens these are actually my two favourite colours so it was extra hard to decide! In the end I went for Jade.

Ghd stands for ‘good hair day’ and they certainly live up to their name. Ghd claims these stylers have ''ceramic heat technology to straighten and smooth, and a rounded body to create curls and waves''.

I think most people know that GHD’s are the best straighteners out there because they’re used in all the salons. What I like about them is that they are so versatile; thanks to the rounded barrel you can not only straighten, but curl or make your hair wavy. For someone with very frizzy hair like me, they really help to smooth it out. The plates just glide down your hair and you can feel they are good quality.
They’re also really great from a practical view point. Little things like the swivel cord are really helpful for when you’re curling your hair because it means they move with your hair instead of being awkward like some cheaper straighteners. They also have a ‘sleep mode’ which means they turn off after 30 minutes of inactivity. This would be good if you accidently left them switched on and very safe. The only thing about them that some people might not like is that they don’t have any extra heat settings, you turn it on and it heats up and there are no other options. This might bother you if you’re worried about damaging your hair and want a low heat setting. However for me they are optimum temperature.
As you can see they left my hair smooth and straight.

If you’re in a rush then you’ll be pleased to hear that these ghd’s heat up so quickly! You switch them on and within about 15 seconds they beep and that’s when you know they’re ready to use. The power cable length is 2.7 metres which is so handy.
The stylers from the pastel collection retail for £110 which is pretty pricey for a hair straightener. However I think they’re worth it. In my opinion it’s better to buy a good quality straightener that will last for years than a few cheap pairs that aren’t as good. I have owned a pair of ghd’s in the past and they lasted for years. I’ve also had cheaper straighteners in the past and they just don’t work as well has ghd’s. So in my opinion they’re an investment. You can buy them from www.ghdhair.com.
I hope this review is helpful! Which one is your favourite colour? x

My Top 5 Spring Perfumes!

Good morning everyone! Isn't perfume just amazing? There's one for every occasion! A beautiful fragrance can make me feel happy and certain scents can remind me of memories and times in my life and make me feel quite nostalgic. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to this and this is why perfume is so important. Therefore today with the sun shining and hints of spring in the air, I thought I would share with you my favourite perfumes for spring, enjoy!

1. Narciso Rodriquez For Her
Fragrance Notes: Floral-fruity, amber and woody notes with musk at the heart.
There are so many perfumes I own because I loved a sample that was given free in a magazine and this is one of them. As soon as I smelled it I knew I had to have it, and I've even repurchased it. It's different to a lot of the perfumes I own because it's a stronger scent and makes me feel empowered. Narciso himself has said that this perfume is a tribute to woman's grace and power of inspiration. A lovely addictive-smelling tribute indeed. I've had a lot of compliments whilst wearing this one.
2. Marc Jacobs Daisy - Eau So Fresh
Fragrance Notes: Grapefruit, raspberry, pear, jasmine, rose, violet, litchi, musk, cedar, plum.
This was a present from my Mom a couple of years ago. The bottle is soo adorable! Just look at all the flowers on the lid, very appropriate for spring! This is such a fun, fresh fragrance that I love to wear in the daytime.
3. Elie Saab Le Parfum
Fragrance Notes: Orange blossom, jasmine is in the heart with hints of woody cedar.
This is a recent purchase and another magazine free sample inspired buy. I bought this when I was in Australia, I didn't have much money and I hadn't treated myself for a very long time! So I spent most of my money on this perfume because I absolutely loved it. It's a very unique scent and the jasmine is very present. The only thing I regret is buying the eau de toilette because it doesn't last very long. It's definitely worth buying the eau de parfum. A lovely girly scent.
4. Benefit Garden of good & Eva
Fragrance Notes: Pear, watermelon, ozone accords, muguet, rosebud, jasmine petals, green violet leaves, freesia, sandalwood, musk, cedarwood.
Mmmmm! I forgot how much I love this one. I got this a couple of years ago when my Mom had a lot of Boots points so she treated me. I hadn't even heard of Benefit then. There are a lot of perfumes in this range but I picked this one. The bottle is beautiful and the box that it came in was a like a little garden of eden. This is a very crisp fragrance with a masculine edge which I love.
5. DKNY Be Delicious
Fragrance Notes: Cucumber, white muguet, violet, magnolia, apple, grapefruit, tuberose, woods & rose.
An oldie but a goodie! This smells really fruity so it's good for a spring day. I can really smell the apple. The bottle is really cool and it's an apple! What more could you want?
Hope you liked this post! Let me know if you love any of these or if not, what's your go-to perfume for spring?
